The Summer Institute on Social/Personality Psychology and Health is a 3-day, invitation only workshop designed to introduce promising social/personality psychologists to health research. Although the focus will be on cancer prevention and control as a platform to test classic and novel theoretical perspectives from social and personality psychology, participants will also gain an appreciation of what is involved in conducting health research at the National Institutes of Health. Faculty will include social/personality psychologists who have successfully carried out health-related programs of research, cancer control researchers, and behavioral scientists from the National Cancer Institute.
Workshop Objectives
The primary objective of the Summer Institute is to advance basic and biobehavioral research in cancer prevention and control by encouraging social/personality psychologists to apply social/personality psychological principles and theories to cancer research. The Summer Institute seeks to enhance cross-disciplinary collaborations between social/personality psychologists and cancer control researchers to promote novel approaches to cancer prevention and control research questions. Participants will learn about current scientific issues in cancer prevention and control and the potential for social/personality psychology to inform these research questions.
