Types of Research Supported by BBRB

The BBRB supports a broad spectrum of Basic and Biobehavioral Research. Examples of the types of research that we support include the following:

  • Development and testing of models and theories of health-related behavior change

  • Psychoneuroimmunology research that examines how stress and psychosocial influences on behavior, the central nervous system, the immune system, and CNS-immune system interactions impact disease progression and remission

  • Psychophysiological and genetic processes linking psychiatric co-morbidity and/or personality with cancer and/or cancer-related health behaviors

  • Psychosocial and behavioral consequences of cancer risk assessment, including the impact of genetic testing on the individual and the family

  • Cognitive and emotional processes underlying medical decision-making in cancer screening, prevention, and treatment

  • Behavioral genetics (e.g., genetic determinants of individual differences in the reinforcing effects of smoking, eating, and physical activity)
