What the Network Means for Participants and the Public

For the individual at high risk for cancer because of a personal or family history, registering in the Network offers a unique opportunity to keep up to date on cancer genetics and potential opportunities to participate in studies. Each participant will periodically receive practical information on cancer genetics and new research developments through the center where they join. The centers can also provide referrals for genetic counseling and testing, if desired. Genetic testing and collection of biospecimens are not part of enrollment, but are likely to be part of participating in a study.

Participants will be invited to enroll in studies on a study-by-study basis. The Network researchers and centers have longstanding experience in working with individuals and families at increased risk for cancer, and will be pleased to confidentially consult with interested individuals about joining.

Participation in the Network, and in any studies conducted through it, will be confidential, and information on all individuals will be protected by the latest communications technology safeguards.
