Marni S. Amsellem, Ph.D. (contractor)
Marni Amsellem is a Behavioral Scientist for NCI's Health Communication and Informatics Research Branch, contracted by Scientific Applications International Corporation (SAIC). As a part-time contractor with SAIC-Frederick, Mrs. Amsellem provides scientific support to various research projects housed within the Health Communication and Informatics Research Branch (HCIRB). Her primary responsibilities include scientific analysis involving the Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS), as well as research publication development, strategic planning, and evaluation of HINTS, as well as Branch-supported portfolio analysis and synthesis.
Mrs. Amsellem joined NCI as a Cancer Research Training Award (CRTA) Fellow with HCIRB in 2004, at which time she was an advanced doctoral student. As a CRTA Fellow, she assisted with conceptual portfolio analyses, literature reviews, and other Branch specific scientific projects. Upon completion of her graduate program, she returned to NCI as an independent contractor with HCIRB. In this capacity, she advised and assisted with various research syntheses and writing-related tasks, including health literacy, the Centers of Excellence in Cancer Communication Research, and trans-HHS informal caregiving initiatives. This latter project has evolved since its inception and she now also serves as a consultant for the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving, charged with review of the evidence-base of informal caregiving interventions. She also is working toward becoming a licensed psychologist in Maryland.
Marni earned her PhD in clinical psychology (specializing in health psychology) from Washington University in St. Louis in 2005. Prior to graduation and before returning to HCIRB, she completed her clinical psychology predoctoral internship at the Washington DC VA Medical Center. Her Bachelor's degree is in Human Development from Cornell University.
