Helen W. Sullivan, PhD, MPH
Dr. Helen Sullivan is a Cancer Prevention Fellow in NCI's Health Communication and Informatics Research Branch. Fellows in this post-doctorial program are responsible for developing original research projects in cancer prevention and control and collaborating with NCI staff on research proposals, presentations and publications. Dr. Sullivan is currently conducting research with data from the Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS) and examining how people at a national level think about cancer prevention and related behavior changes. This work reflects her interest in the impact of individuals' motivations and attitudes on health-related outcomes.
Dr. Sullivan joined NCI's Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program in 2005. She spent the next year pursuing her Master of Public Heath degree and received in-depth training in cancer prevention and control. In 2006, she joined the Health Communication and Informatics Research Branch. Prior to joining NCI, Dr. Sullivan conducted research in the field of psychology and health behavior while completing her Ph.D. Her research focused on understanding the effects of pursuing different types of personal goals, and the way in which people's attitudes affect outcomes such as smoking cessation, dietary changes, and well-being.
Dr. Sullivan received her MPH from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, her Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Minnesota, and her B.A. in psychology from Yale University.
