Connie Dresser, RDPH, LN
Program Director

Connie Dresser is the Program Director for the National Cancer Institute's Multimedia Technology Health Communication SBIR/STTR Program. The program funds science-based, theory-driven, user-centered grants and contracts to translate cancer research across the cancer continuum into programs, interventions, systems, networks, and products needed by professionals or the public to reduce cancer risk and improve the quality of life of cancer survivors. Other programmatic objectives are to advance communication behaviors and address gaps in health communication and eHealth research. Under Ms. Dresser's strategic guidance, the program has produced four "Linking Science and Business SBIR Showcases," and an informative web site for new and experienced applicants.

Ms. Dresser joined the NCI team in 1988 and was appointed SBIR/STTR Program Director in 1991. She has since dedicated her time and efforts to accelerating eHealth research activities through her SBIR portfolio. Ms. Dresser currently serves as the NCI liaison on the Healthy People 2010 Health Communication Workgroup. She has received five National Institutes of Health Merit Awards in recognition for her achievements in the field of health communication and product development, and her program is used as a model for other NCI, SBIR programs.

A registered public health nutritionist and former analyst for the CDC's National and Hispanic Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, Ms. Dresser brings her experiences in clinical and applied health communication, public health nutrition, epidemiology, data collection and surveillance activities to her current role. She has written more than 30 peer reviewed journal articles, book chapters and Federal government publications, and has given over two dozen major presentations at recognized events.

Ms. Dresser received her Bachelor of Science degree in Foods and Nutrition from Marywood University and interned with the Public Health Service in clinical nutrition.
