April Oh, PhD, MPH is a Cancer Research Training Fellow at the National Cancer Institute. She earned a doctoral degree in community health science from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She also holds a master of public health degree in health management and policy from the University of Michigan and bachelors of public health degree in health policy and administration from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Dr. Oh’s research examines neighborhood inequities, racial/ethnic and socioeconomic health disparities, and environmental determinants of physical activity and other cancer preventive health behaviors. Her doctoral work examined the association between the social and built neighborhood environment and physical activity among minority women living in the City of Chicago. During her public health training, Dr. Oh worked as part of the research team for the NIH Centers for Population Health and Health Disparities examining health disparities in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. She also worked on a pilot African-American breast cancer survivors weight loss intervention study and in other research examined the role of the neighborhood environment on adherence to a home-based walking intervention among Chicago area African-American women. Her current research projects include examination of the association between acculturation and adherence to multiple cancer preventive health behaviors, racial/ethnic disparities in awareness of physical activity and reduced cancer risk, and examination of state physical education policies in public schools.
